Description
Vitamin B12 and its various forms
Vitamin B12 is the most chemically complex of all vitamins. Its chemical name is cobalamin, which is derived from its central cobalt atom. The impressive formula C63H88N14O14PCogives an idea of the huge molecule behind vitamin B12. Vitamin B12 (cobalamin) exists in various chemical forms, all of which perform different tasks in the body. The natural forms of vitamin B12 that are directly effective in the body are known as “bioactive coenzymes”. Synthetic vitamin B12 active ingredients, such as the frequently used cyanocobalamin, on the other hand, have no direct vitamin effect and must first be converted into a usable form by the body.
Effect
Vitamin B12 performs a number of important functions in the body. Among other things, it can help to reduce tiredness and fatigue and maintain a normal energy metabolism. It contributes to the normal functioning of the psyche, immune and nervous systems, supports the formation of red blood cells and is beneficial for normal homocysteine metabolism. The body also needs vitamin B12 for cell division. Vitamin B12 acts as a so-called coenzyme in the body. This means that vitamin B12 is necessary for certain enzymes in our body to be able to fulfill their tasks. The associated reactions are directly dependent on vitamin B12 and cannot take place without the vitamin.
Methylcobalamin
Methylcobalamin is one of the two natural bioactive coenzymes of vitamin B12. It can be directly utilized by the body without conversion and is characterized by a very good absorption capacity. Methylcobalamin is the dominant form of vitamin B12 in the blood and cell plasma. Together with folic acid, methylcobalamin in the cell plasma is part of the methylation cycle, which is important for numerous central bodily processes such as cell division and the synthesis of hormones and neurotransmitters. Methycobalamin is also involved in the breakdown of homocysteine in these reactions. Methylcobalamin supports mental function and a healthy nerve metabolism, but is also suitable as a general daily supplement.

Vitamin B12 and the cofactor folic acid
Vitamin B12 and folic acid work very closely together in the body, are both “cell vitamins” and can only develop their full effect if a sufficient supply of both vitamins is ensured. Both cofactors are necessary, for example, to convert homocysteine to methionine, to form DNA components and play a role in cell division. It therefore makes sense to take both vitamins together.
By the way: Vitamin B12 deficiency affects many people
Consumption recommendation
1-mal täglich 13 Tropfen außerhalb der Mahlzeit. Mit der Zunge im Mundraum verteilen. Gegebenenfalls in ein Glas Wasser/Saft einrühren. Vor Gebrauch schütteln.
Note: The daily requirement for an average adult is 4 μg (see German Nutrition Society (DGE)).
A higher intake of vitamin B12 can be useful for prevention and in the case of vitamin B12 deficiency.
