Black cumin oil, obtained from the seeds of the Nigella sativa plant, has been an integral part of various cultures for thousands of years. In ancient Egypt in particular, it was a valued natural remedy and culinary spice.

Ingredients of black cumin seed oil
Black cumin seed oil is characterized by its complex composition. It contains a high concentration of unsaturated fatty acids, including the rare omega-6 fatty acid gamma-linolenic acid. Particularly noteworthy are the bioactive components thymoquinone (with a content of up to 71 %) and α-hederin. Thymoquinone has antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties, while α-hederin even has immunomodulatory effects.

Production by cold pressing
The production of high-quality black cumin oil – like ours from NatuGena – takes place using a gentle cold-pressing process. In this process, the seeds of the real black cumin are pressed at low temperatures so that heat-sensitive ingredients such as essential oils, vitamins and secondary plant substances are preserved. The oil is yellow to greenish-brown in color and has a characteristic herbaceous, peppery taste.

Therapeutic effects and scientific findings

Since ancient times, black cumin oil has been referred to as the “gold of the pharaohs”, which underlines its outstanding importance in naturopathy. Modern research has identified numerous therapeutic properties:

1. Immunomodulation and inhibition of inflammation:
   Studies show that thymoquinone can regulate the activity of certain immune cells and inhibit inflammatory processes. These effects are particularly important in the treatment of atopic eczema and asthma.
2. Allergies:
   Clinical studies have shown significant relief of allergic symptoms by taking black cumin oil. Pollen allergy sufferers benefit if they start taking it a few weeks before the pollen count.

There are indications that regular consumption could reduce the cardiovascular risk. However, this needs to be investigated further in large-scale studies.

   The high concentration of thymoquinone gives black cumin oil a pronounced antioxidant capacity that can neutralize cell-damaging free radicals. The oil also inhibits the growth of certain bacteria and fungi.

Black cumin seed oil can be used both internally and externally. Internally, it is recommended to take a teaspoonful daily over cold food or directly pure. Externally, it is used for skin and hair care and is effective for skin conditions such as psoriasis and neurodermatitis.
