To test the effect of potassium carbonate, dissolve the normal bath salt in a glass of cold water and measure the pH value. The pH value usually remains unchanged, unless the salt contains strong alkalizing agents such as potassium carbonate. In this case, you will notice a clear pH change, which shows that you have received a buffered lye solution.

Application notes

Important note: Despite its cleansing properties, you should be aware that bathing for hours in such a solution can leach out the skin and impair its protective function. Therefore, use potassium carbonate with caution and only for the intended cleansing purposes.

Natural cleaning power

Water that has already been heated cleans better than cold water. Measure the pH value of your cold tap water and then that of your warm bath water (without additives). Due to the outgassing of carbon dioxide during heating, the pH value of the water rises significantly in an alkaline direction. This shows that the heat of the water and not the alkaline powders are usually the reason for the higher pH value.
