Zeolite – Eating mineral clay leads to a healthier life

Did you know that lithophages are healthier, live longer and apparently don’t have cancer? Lithophages are creatures that eat rocks – and zeolite (a mineral clay) is nothing more than finely ground rock. Mineral clays have long been used in livestock nutrition because they ensure healthy digestion and healthier animals. In nature, too, many animals consume soil again and again because they instinctively know how good it is for them. However, not only animals are lithophages, but also humans – at least when they are still living naturally.

For example, some northern Siberian peoples and various Caucasian peoples are considered to be the longest-lived (and at the same time healthiest) people on earth. When investigating why this might be the case, it was discovered that all these peoples had one thing in common: they repeatedly consumed mineral earths. Among the North Siberians it is clinoptilolite zeolite (one of three forms of zeolite) and heulandite; among the Caucasians it is also clinoptilolite zeolite and also montmorillonite (bentonite).

What is zeolite?

Zeolite is a microporous rock, i.e. a rock with tiny pores. It is a volcanic rock and its pores were once formed by volcanic gas inclusions. The term “zeo” comes from the Greek and means “boiling”, “lith” means “stone”. They are therefore boiled or boiled stones that were formed millions of years ago when the glowing lava earth fell into the sea during volcanic eruptions and caused the sea to boil. The special crystal lattice structure of the so-called clinoptilolite zeolite was also formed during these events. The net-like crystal lattice of zeolite consists of silicon (SiO4) and aluminum (AlO4). No, don’t worry, the aluminum does not dissolve out of the crystal lattice in the body. The crystal lattice is immune to numerous external influences – including stomach acid and other digestive juices. Cations (positively charged particles) such as calcium, magnesium, iron, sodium and potassium are located in the cavities of the crystal lattice. The lattice itself, i.e. its tiny cavities, are negatively charged, which in turn is an important prerequisite for the zeolite’s ability to detoxify and thus heal.
