A warm welcome…

on the Doctor Raw Blog! In the last entry, we learned that diseases are not simply genetically determined or randomly generated in our lives – even genetic predispositions are not inevitable fate.
They are manifested through our actions and thoughts and can be influenced by ourselves, as epigenetics explains very precisely on a scientific basis.
An illness is therefore always a consequence of a certain thought pattern. This is where psychosomatics comes into play – because it tries to explain which thought patterns can be assigned to which particular illness, but we are leaving the realm of science here because there is a lack of caution in the scientific presentation.
This text is for people who don’t have time for empty phrases and simply want to know.

Psychosomatics in detail – illnesses as a mirror of the self

Psychosomatics sees the body as a level of representation or realization of consciousness and therefore also of all processes and changes that take place in consciousness.
If a person’s consciousness becomes imbalanced, this becomes visible and tangible in their body as a symptom.
At this point it must be said that the term psychosomatics is not only used in the naturopathic and psychologically oriented therapeutic field, but also in conventional medicine.
Here it simply meant that an illness arose from a purely mental cause. The division into somatic, psychosomatic, psychological and mental illnesses that is common in conventional medicine today prevents a deeper understanding of the illness. The “new” psychosomatics (it is not that new, it is actually rather ancient, because its essence can already be found in the sacred writings of many peoples), regards every illness as psychosomatic and thus focuses on all symptoms and does not allow for any exceptions.
Psyche means soul, soma means body, it always treats body and soul – never just one of the two, because body and soul are part of a whole.

The symptoms

The illness begins when we realize that a symptom has manifested itself.
The symptom is the key word, because we need to pay attention to it. Why?
You ask, it is disturbing and it must disappear as quickly as possible.
Yes, this view is common nowadays, conventional medicine has declared war on symptoms and tries to persuade the sick that

Ruediger Dahlke – Der Auto von “Krankheit als Symbol – Handbuch der Psychosomatik”
is a random event and carefully avoids interpreting the symptom or even researching its cause.
The symptom thus loses its significance as a signal. Ruediger Dahlke usesthe following very apt comparisonin his book “Illness as a Symbol – Handbook of Psychosomatics”
“A car has various indicator lights on the dashboard that only light up when some important function of the car is no longer working properly. If one of these lights comes on while we are driving, we are not at all pleased. We feel prompted by this signal to abort our journey. Despite our understandable concern, however, it would be foolish to be angry with the light; after all, it informs us of a process that we would otherwise not have noticed so quickly, as it is in an “invisible” area for us. So we now take the illumination of the light as an impetus to call a car mechanic with the aim that, after his intervention, the light will no longer light up and we can continue driving in peace. But we would be very angry if the mechanic were to achieve this goal by simply removing the bulb from the light. Although the light is no longer on – and that’s what we actually wanted – the way to achieve this result is too superficial for us. We think it makes more sense to make the light bulb superfluous instead of preventing it from lighting up. To do this, however, you would have to take your eyes off the light and look at the areas behind it to find out what is actually wrong. After all, the light was only trying to draw our attention and make us ask questions.” What was the indicator light in this example is the symptom in our topic.
It is therefore stupid to be angry with the symptom, because it only points us to question, it must not be prevented, it mustbe madesuperfluous. A sick person is always asked: “What’s wrong with you?”.
This is very revealing, because an illness or a symptom always means that something is missing. There is a lack of awareness and that is why you have the symptom. The symptom is the tough teacher on the path to awareness, it is the voice with which the soul communicates, our best friend would not tell us his opinion as honestly to our face as the symptom.
Illness only knows the goal of becoming whole – of healing. Healing always means an approach to the wholeness of consciousness, an integration of that all-encompassing unity in which the opposites still rest undifferentiated – away from the constantly judging, all-dividing mind.
Healing means that the person has become healed, i.e.morewhole“.
Illness and healing are therefore terms that refer to consciousness. The body can be neither healthy nor sick – it can only reflect the different states of consciousness. The symptom can tell us what we are still missing on this path to “healing”.
At this point, of course, we “only” need to understand the language of the symptoms.

The interpretation of the symptoms

This is the crux of the matter, because this is where most people give up.
Many conscious people know that the illness means something, but nothing more.
The first step to better understanding your own situation is to look inside yourself, become aware of the situation and consult yourself.
Most of the time, we tend to ask others for advice, go to the doctor

Where is the real source of my problem?

or search the internet and forget about our own responsibility.
It is so important to remember that we are responsible for our own lives and are not at all helpless. In such situations, it is important to use our intuition: We listen into ourselves, without the tense mind, whether meditating or not, and perceive our inner voice, in other words: the sixth sense. The sixth sense is the communication of our soul, which wants to show us how we can live our lives in love.
If we start to feel this love again by listening to it, we feel safe again and can start to live authentically what makes us happy, completely free from external influences. The soul communicates with feelings, images and sudden impressions via the sixth sense. It is therefore important to listen more to these intuitive impressions.
And listening more to ourselves and trusting ourselves is a good way to become more aware. Your own interpretations are always better than other people’s opinions. And even if they are not quite right, they can be wonderfully supplemented by existing interpretations.
Existing interpretations can be found, for example, in the aforementioned book “Krankheit als Symbol – Handbuch der Psychosomatik” by Ruediger Dahlke.
The following text is based on this book and is intended to serve as an illustration and suggestion.

The interpretation of hair loss

The affected region in the broadest sense of hair loss is the head.
This is where the first signs are found.
The head is often interpreted as a symbol of reason and thinking (bright, brilliant head, keeping a cool head).
The head is a form of self-expression and sometimes of arrogance (walking with head held high).
The posture of a person’s head reveals whether they are “straightforward”, the slightly tilted head betrays an ingratiating person who asks for leniency.
The head therefore reveals a lot about our mood, our self-assertion (keep your head up, don’t let it get you down, assert your own head), our orientation and overview (don’t know where your head is) or even one-sided thinking (rack your brains, my head is buzzing). Let’s move on to the hair.
You can find out more about the symbolism of hair here.
The hair, specifically the main hair (to be distinguished from body and beard hair) has its symbolic meaning in freedom, vitality and carefreeness (cutting off old gray braids, not letting gray hair grow) and stands for primal, untamed strength.
They also symbolize power, for example.
The hippies deliberately let their hair grow long (so that they hide their ears, the organ of obedience) and soldiers, like slaves in the past, are not allowed to wear their hair long.
The task of hair is therefore to convey strength, beauty and splendor, to represent one’s own claim to freedom and to demonstrate power, strength and dignity.
It also serves as an antenna for external perception. And what exactly does hair loss mean? On the symptom level, hair loss stands for moulting, the person affected has to pay for the past (losing hair, not getting away with it).
The hair also stands for the old and the past, for old structures.
The old wants to disappear, too little new hair grows back.
Hair loss also stands for the loss of power, influence and freedom, one feels naked and raw as in early childhood.
The way to deal with this is to let go of old structures, make room for something new and admit to yourself that there is not enough new growth.
Life can no longer go on, mental progress is called into question.
I also have to ask myself whether I am carrying around old guilt, whether I owe myself something.
Hair loss is a kind of self-punishment – what inner demands am I making on myself?
Can I fulfill it instead of atoning for it in the form of hair loss?
The solution to the issue is to be at peace with the past in order to allow new strength to sprout and possibly to give up external power through a conscious hair sacrifice (as in a monastery).

Conclusion

So those were the tips on hair loss from our favorite book on psychosomatics.
As you may have noticed, they are not very precise, but rather broad.
And that’s a good thing, because they are intended more as a hint, as an impetus, and not as something to get stuck on. In any case, I hope you enjoyed this insight into psychosomatics and if so, please feel free to write about it in the comments. Until then, take care!
