Description
The sweetest temptation of all!
Well, we don’t know what other temptations you are familiar with, but we are sure that figs are very popular. This fruit is simply heavenly. Small, golden and honey-sweet. They are light to golden brown in color, and when you pick them up, you will immediately notice the seductive scent of honey and sweetness. A true masterpiece of nature.
Our figs come directly from Spain, from the best growing regions – from where the sun really gets the fruit going. Golden figs are aromatic, super juicy and also super rich in fiber – with a whopping 9.8 g per 100 g. This will definitely get your digestion going.
They have a special characteristic: they “sugar out” in summer – this means that they develop a light white layer on the surface when the fruit sugar is released. This is a natural process and shows how natural and high-quality figs are. Incidentally, this sugar makes the figs even sweeter.
Figs enhance your muesli, make cakes and bread even more irresistible and even add a sweet note to savory dishes. But unfortunately they don’t do this on their own, you have to cut and process them yourself. But don’t worry, it’s worth the effort. As soon as the sweet, golden-brown fruits find their way into your recipes, every dish becomes a taste sensation.
What exactly is a fig?
More appearance than reality? That really doesn’t apply here, more appearance than reality. But the fig is actually a so-called false fruit. This means that it does not form from a flower, but from the inflorescence, the “flower inside” the fruit. The actual fruits are the tiny seeds in the flesh.
The fig is the first plant mentioned by name in the Bible. In ancient times, the fig leaf was often used to cover the genitals of naked figures in art and conceal their nakedness. It was intended to conceal the shame of the people depicted and make their nudity “respectable”. At this time, it was considered shameful to depict naked bodies, and the fig leaf helped to overcome this shame by concealing what was considered “offensive”. It was even subsequently painted on statues or added during restorations. Today, however, the fig leaf tends to symbolize the natural beauty and richness that nature gives us.
